Little Vegemites – Our mothers group.

Estimated reading time 2.4 mins

I hope everyone in Australia had a lovely long weekend and a Happy Australia Day. I just wanted to write a quick post today to talk about the mothers group that we attend each week.

Before Ariel was born I had plans to attend local mothers groups but with all of our medical appointments and dealing with the diagnosis it didn’t happen. Luckily when I joined with early intervention there was an opportunity to start a mothers group with some of the other new mums in the  program. We have been meeting every Friday and the group  has gone from myself and another Mum to  around 5 or so mums with little ones under 2 years old or not walking yet. All of the kids have Down Syndrome or another type of disability. The reason I want to write this post is to extend an invitation to any other mums who may have an interest in coming along. We meet on a Friday morning at 9.30am and have morning tea. We usually stay for around 2 hours and chat or sometimes we have someone come and chat with us about certain topics. This year we are planning to do music therapy every second week. At the moment we meet in Turramurra but this will change to other venues probably as the group grows. We may go to the pool or parks etc. This Friday coming we are meeting and doing up a roster with our activities for the term. This group is important to me because of the support and friendships I get from the other Mums who are going through the same things as I am. It is also a great way for Ariel to start interacting with other toddlers in a safe environment.

If you live in Sydney and are interested in coming along please contact me raylene@1skinsolution.com
